The Great-IST project has worked to contribute to the improvement of the institutional and legislative infrastructure in support of IST research in eleven target countries: Albania, check Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, FYROM, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine, through the elaboration of a state of the art research, analysis and recommendations for the convergence of their national policies towards a shared European IST research agenda.
The Great-IST project brought together in three working groups IST stakeholders from the eleven target countries to exchange experiences and discuss strategies and recommendations for convergence of these countries towards the EU IST policies and priorities. Project partners worked together with the three Working Groups (WGs) in order to draft reports about the state of the art and about recommendations for the target countries in the following fields: (i) development of IST support infrastructure and communication with stakeholders, (ii) gradual harmonisation of target countries IST RTD policies, (iii) linking IST research and business.
The findings and recommendations of these WGs reports have then been analysed and developed within the study ‘IST Research & Development Policies in Eastern Europe - Insights and Recommendations Fostering Innovation’, which in turn constitutes the basis for the policy recommendations included in the project Position Paper.
