Energy View of BSEC countries

The kick–off meeting of representatives from the scientific institutes that undertook the preparation of the annual edition “Energy View of BSEC countries 2008” was held on January 27, doctor 2009 at the premises of the Energy Policy and Development Centre (KEPA) of NKUA.

The project is under the auspices of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) and is financed by the “Hellenic Aid” mechanism of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The agenda of the meeting included topics for improving the quality of the edition so as to result in a substantial contribution of the academic community for promoting reliable and updated information for investment and trade issues of the energy and climate change sectors of the BSEC
countries.

The participants referred particularly to the need of disseminating outcomes to the BSEC countries and agreed in organizing regional events for promoting the edition. They also agreed in participating at the KEPA initiative for the establishment of a Regional Intermediary Energy Organization (RIEO) for the BSEC countries which will aim at the technology transfer regarding the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol mechanisms, the organization and functioning of energy product markets.

Participants discussed the promotion of joint research activities in the framework of FP7 open calls, and the organization of the 2nd International Conference for Energy and Climate Change issues during autumn 2009 in Athens. Finally, according to the agreed time schedule, the 2008 edition, which will include all twelve BSEC countries, will be circulated at the beginning of summer 2009 and will be also presented to the official bodies of BSEC, in autumn 2009.
