European Science Foundation and ALLEA offer, usa ed on a competitive basis, full-cost awards to leading early career scholars to participate in the ESF / ALLEA three-day “new horizons” workshop in Vienna, Austria, from 8 – 10 June 2009, held under the title: “From Learned Societies to Knowledge-Based Society: Towards a European Young Academy?”
The workshop is meant to provide input to the exploration of possiblities for setting up something akin to a Virtual European Young Academy. The latest high-level working meeting between ALLEA and the European Science Foundation (ESF) in March had decided to take forward this was project jointly: a need had been identified to create an authoritative framework for the best of early career researchers to express themselves, as a cohort, but also as a group of leading scientists of the future, on science policy and science-and-society issues and to develop new perspectives for collaborative, transnational, interdisciplinary research. A working document will be further discussed at the next ESF-ALLEA high-level meeting (scheduled for late March), for which invitations will be sent out shortly, and at the next ALLEA Steering Committee meeting.
