The Athens Summit 2008- Global Climate and Energy Security

The International Institute for Energy Security and Climate Change (GREECE) in association with Platts, generic (US), bronchi USI Capital Corporation (US) and E3G (UK) are organizing the Athens Summit, to be held in Athens, Greece on 5-7 May 2008.

Held under the auspices of H.E., the President of the Hellenic Republic, Dr Karolos Papoulias, this event will bring together top government officials, corporate leaders, academic and market analysts from the advocacy arena together for a dialogue on the leading environment and energy issues of our time. Key thought leaders and primary actors in the market will form an essential part of an ongoing platform for debate and discussion in a highly social and educational environment. The ultimate mission of the Athens Summit is to serve as a forum for better understanding and positive action.

A series of parallel sessions will examine the ways in which each separate sector of the energy industry (oil, gas, coal, nuclear, alternatives) interrelates with the greater question of environmental protection. Prominent European and international industry associations, such as the Climate Change Capital, EURELECTRIC, European Bank for Reconstruction & Development, European Biomass Industry Association, European Photovoltaic industry Association, European Renewables Energy Council, International Energy Agency, Institute of Energy of South Eastern Europe, World Business Council for Sustainable Development, World Renewables Energy Council, will lead these parallel sessions.

The Greek Minister of Development, Christos Folias, has invited the ministers from 61 countries of Europe, East Europe, Middle East and the Mediterranean to join him during the Athens Summit - Global Climate and Energy Security on May 7 2008 and sign a letter of intent to jointly achieve at least 20% savings on energy and generate 20% of energy from renewable sources by the year 2020.
